 Chairmans 12 monthly report 2005

Obituaries:Beryl Stott, Charles Burnett, Desmond Hunt.

2005 has been an outstanding year for the Kaiapoi Golf Club!

Kaiapoi Golf Club continues to be at the forefront of Canterbury Golf.

Congratulations to all those members who have represented the club so successfully this year.

We all should stand up and be proud of these achievements.

The clubs financial position remains sound, although we are relying heavily on funding from Pub Charities, Community Trust etc. $24,500 has been raised this year through the continued hard work of Neville in the office. We have also been able to lease the catering facilities and the monthly payments are making budgeting easier.

The hole sponsorship negotiated 3 years ago is up for renewal next year so we will be approaching our existing sponsors and are always on the lookout for more interested parties.

The income from our poker machines has risen only slightly but we will have to upgrade our machines to suit the new government standards so we will have new games installed with these upgrades. These have been budgeted for and are shown in the financial statements. When the restaurant is fully operational we expect income from these machines to climb substantially.

We have also budgeted for a large increase in our green keeping contract, as this has not been altered for 3 years.

This years raffle proceeds are being allocated to further course development. This will be additional to the budgeted amount and will continue to build on the $30,000 plus spent on the course this year. Of this, the major improvement was the completion of the irrigation enhancements.

I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank John Walter for his outstanding contribution to the successful running of the club by overseeing the club finances and the spending of the current board. His knowledge of the club systems has enabled us to keep the increase in subscriptions down to the bare minimum in view of our rising overheads. Thank you John.

House

Welcome to Mike Cunningham and Darlene Davis (Country Caterers) This couple have leased the club’s bar and catering facilities and have joined the Board in opening the clubhouse restaurant “The Moorings Brasserie”. I wish them success in their new business and look forward to working with them.

We were disappointed when Brent and Patricia Bone decided to retire after 17 years with the club but I hope that you will all make Mike and Darlene feel welcome and continue to support them.

The club is indebted to John and Lyn Rainey for donating the striking new entrance lights.

The new entrance sign has recently been installed and we hope this will entice more new members and green fee players.

The Course

Our golf course continues to improve under Peter Commons care. The Board has adopted a steady as you go approach to course development with the irrigation completion being our major goal. A number of areas now with water, will be top dressed and over sown to improve the playing surface. Thank you Pete and your staff.

The Greens committee have continued to liase with the contractor and their ideas to maintain or improve the course are brought to the Board on a monthly basis. It is thanks to them and Pete’s team that the course is presented in the high standard we now have.
