Chairmans Six Monthly Board Report
June 2006
It gives me great pleasure to present this report on our progressive golf club.
Thank you to the present board members M Garven, T Inwood, P Furlong, S Green, and N Lyons. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Karl Mariu on his recent election to the executive committee of Canterbury golf. Well done Karl you will give us a voice at the top.
Mike and his team are now open for meals Wednesday to Sunday and for snacks during the day. The club has formed a new company (The Dining Green) to be able to operate the new restaurant within the licensing rules, this will enable the club to let green fee players and members of the public use our facilities. Please support the restaurant and let your friends know that they are now welcome to enjoy a meal and a drink at The Moorings.
Thanks to Peter and the greens staff the course is as good as it has ever been. You have been able to maintain the course in excellent condition through a very wet May and cold and snowy June.
My thanks to the Greens Committee, the paths at No 1 and the potholes in the car park will be sealed very shortly. The recommendation we received on No 10 hole has been implemented and we are now waiting for the green to come back to full size. Your advice regarding the tree removal between 5 & 6 and along the 2nd and 3rd fairways has been passed and we are now waiting for the contractor to begin.
There is a major problem on our golf course that can only be rectified by you the players. The repairing of pitch marks and divots is non existent, please if you see one repair it, if you make one repair it and if you see someone make one ask them to repair it. We do not want to make the carting of buckets compulsory but it is an option we are considering.
Thanks to J Walter for monitoring our monthly accounts, with 4 months to go before the end of our financial year we are still operating very close to budget.
Recently the Board considered the purchase of a neighbouring property but after studying LIM reports, visiting the property and evaluating our financial status it we decided to forgo the opportunity. Thanks to B Freeman, T Monk and J Walter for your input into this decision.
Congratulations to all members who have represented the club in all competitions this year. Special mention to the Ladies section who continue to defend the Boyle Cup. Well Done.
At the time of writing three Kaiapoi teams will contest the Templeton Cup Semi finals. We only entered four teams this year and all teams qualified for the ¼ finals. Thanks to those players in the Kaikoura cup and the Ladies who have played in Pennants teams.
At the last AGM it was passed that unless the board saw fit to call a six monthly meeting a report to all members was sufficient. Please be assured that the club is in good heart and a sound financial position with a newsletter being sent to members covering reports from all sections.
Centennial Progress
All research received and collated by the committee is now being edited ready for the production of our history booklet. This will be able to be purchased at our centennial weekend celebrations next year. If you have any notable or humorous ditty’s that could be added please hand them in at the office. The committee now has the task of organising the weekend itself. Please find included a registration form for the celebrations attached to the back of the newsletter.
