Greens 6 Monthly Report 2005
The greens committee would like to supply the following report:
Greens: These have most recently been sprayed for moss. The verti-draining in March was very successful with the greens responding well and we now have an excellent playing surface.
Please remember to repair your pitch marks on the greens and remind your playing partners to do so too so that we can keep the greens in good order.
Fairways: The daisies have been an area of concern and the fairways will now be sprayed four times a year to get on top of this problem. The next spray is due in September.
The new Ladies tee on #2 is now in play with a lot larger teeing area available.
The back of #3 tee has been renovated to allow more teeing space.
Irrigation: After a dry summer there are some areas on the course that are a major concern to the greens committee (and members). The front of #4 tee is in need of irrigation for the grass to grow there. GUR is now in place here. This and other areas on the course requiring irrigation will be remedied when funding has been received.
The Greens budget this year is very tight with only $15000. allocated to spend on the course. The major expenses this year have been the payment to the contractor for petrol increases, the garden in front of the clubhouse and irrigation repairs.
The garden in front of the clubhouse has been transformed. This was re-designed with the centenary in mind with blue and yellow (club colours) being used. Thanks to J McGregor and all that volunteered their time and labour to create this garden.
Thanks to all the volunteers who tirelessly work on the gardens around the course.
Thanks also to the working bee helpers who continue to tidy up paths and other areas of the course. They are always looking for more volunteers. Please see Trevor Monk if you have a spare hour or two to help out around the course.
Geoff Cooper has donated a van, which has been a huge help around the course.
Barry Freeman has donated a leaf picker that has received a lot of use lately. Thank you both for your kind donations.
A special mention that Brandon Parker was only one of 3 South Island apprentices that received a merit award for Stage 1 of NZ Sports Turf ITO. Well-done Brandon.
It's important that our course looks good for visitors and potential members - so thank you for your efforts to repair you divots (please take a sand bucket) and your pitch marks.
