back Secretary Managers [6 monthly report 2006]
Great to see the ship sailing in the same direction.
The last six months have been busy again with many projects finished and more to be started with the kitchen extension finished and others will start when funding has been arranged. Again I ask the members to be patience as applications for funding are very difficult to achieve as the Department of internal affairs has set new changes in place.
Membership is up with the membership drives being very successful over the August September 2005 period with board wanting this to take place for 2006, we are working very hard towards growing the membership base to give the club the solid foundation required for the future. Country catering has been on board for several months and we have worked through 1 or 2 issues and with the successful application of an on licence by the Board we now have the ability to make the Mooring restaurant become a success. Mike and his staff are working very hard to firstly cater to the club members and golfing visitors; with the feedback that I get from the customers he is achieving this in a big way.
With the Department of Internal Affairs EMS system coming on line later this year we had to up grade our gaming machines and installing optical cable connected to each gaming machine which will be linked into Wellington DIA data base. Since the new install we are showing an improved turnover and with unitising the increase in restaurant patronage this will help to stimulate the gaming room.
The introduction of the NZGA Dot golf system has been a real success with patience we have worked through the problems of getting your score cards printed, with the new club swipe card there has been a huge improvement it takes time to embrace the new changes, but reports back from many members and visitors are very positive, the reporting system for the office is excellent and new improvements are underway.
Removal of trees on the course will close down the front nine for 3 days and will leave the back nine open, dates are not confirmed as yet but have negotiated with 4 Canterbury clubs to assist our members and will advise on front notice board on conformation.
Funding to upgrade footpaths to teeing areas at hole 1 and in font of car parking area has been successful from Community First Foundation ($10000) and will start as soon as contractor can organise his time.
A partnership with Kaiapoi Golf Club covering club sponsorship has been published and posted to many businesses with several showing interest, these are available to any person or business that could be interested in considering this option. Renewal of hole sponsorship was sold this year for a 2-year term with 2 holes still needing sponsors, We also have 9 ball washers to find sponsors for if any one is interested please contact Secretary Manager.
Junior Section:
The new junior programme 2006 has been set in place for 12th October and starting date for our 16 week coaching course on Thursday nights at 4pm during the summer months, coached by Lynne Shaskey NZPGA Coach with the help from T Monk and 2 or 3 senior club members. We are very pleased with the development and encouraged by the numbers attending this well organised skill based programme that has been a real success and thank Lynne Shaskey for her efforts.
Club Bar & Catering:
I would like to emphasise to all club members that we all need to support our club caterers to make sure they have a worth while business for the hours that are working behind the bar etc. The restaurant is now open Wednesday, Thursday, Fridays and Sundays with all you can eat at a cost of $15 and Fridays $10 steak or fish nights. Watch out for there Saturday night specials, they also welcome functions enquires wedding, 21sts, work dinners etc. Please phone 327-3592.
Course:
It has been brought to my notice that sand buckets are still not being returned or replaced back in the holders on holes 1 and 10, if you have one in your car boot please return and use on your round of golf. The Board and greens committee are very concerned at the non-repair of divots and pitch marks and are considering making sand buckets a compulsory carry for all golfers if the repairs are not adhered to. Signage on the course must be adhered to, as they are placed on the course for a reason to help with wear and tear etc. Also the course must be played as set up by the greens staff with placing being used over the winter period with this decision being made by the Ladies and Men’s club captains.
Divots & Pitch Marks are not always being replaced or repaired on fairways and greens please could we make an effort in this area and use the sand buckets during your round.
Contractor Peter and his staff have achieved a lot during the last 6 months and the course is in great condition as we enter the winter season. It would be great if at times, members could thank Peter and staff for the effort that is being put into developing and presentation, not only for our members but all visitors.
Club Volunteers:
Board Members and all committee members plus any other members who spend many hours voluntarily for the club are appreciated for the great effort they make. Well Done.
