Ladies Club Captain 12 Monthly Report 2006
I have much pleasure in presenting my report for 2006.
Our season has again been successful with some of our Ladies performing well in C.W.G. competitions.
Interclub
The interclub format was changed this year with games being played fortnightly from late January. Once again our teams performed very well with 36 holes placed second, the Weekend team also second and our 18 hole team won the final against Clearwater at Weedons. Well done all teams. The 2007 season is again fortnightly starting mid-March.
National Team
This year the game was held at Rangiora. Our representatives were Nancy Wasley, Judy McIver, Janice Cattermole and Val Burnett who were placed 5th in the Canterbury region.
Plunket Tournament
Our annual fundraising for the local branch of Plunket was held on Tuesday 21st March and raised a handsome $895.00.
Eileen Nutt Trophy
Captains Day on Friday 17th February was held at Greendale Golf Club.
Jill Cassidy and Val Burnett our Silver & Bronze A medalists played extremely well only to miss out on this trophy by 1 stroke.
Boyle Cup
After our six challenges for the prestigious cup, it is still in our trophy cabinet, so will come out again in March for the 2007 season.
Mid Winter Xmas Day
Again a wet day, so a pleasant morning was held in the clubhouse , enjoying mulled wine with Xmas cake and later a demonstration of Scrap Booking by Kerry Mariu of Creative Memories.
Obituary
On Monday 30th October 2006, Nancy McGregor passed away. Nancy was one of our long standing members, serving on committees for many years. She played in many pennant teams and represented our Ladies in C.W.G. competitions many times with success. She will be missed.
Bus Trip
Thank you to Liz Williams and Marj Wright for a well organized and enjoyable mystery bus trip. After much speculation the bus driven by Rayner Bannan turned into the Burnham Golf Club where golf and food was enjoyed by all.
Championships
Finals day on Saturday 30th September dawned a fine day with some good golf played. Congratulations to our three champions. Silver, Kerry Mariu,
Bronze A, Trish Taylor, & Bronze B, Winn Robb.
After the presentations, a welcome enjoyable Spit Roast meal ended a happy friendly day.
Champion of Champions Day & Gross Stableford Day
Our team of Kerry Mariu, Trish Taylor and Janice Cattermole being our Silver & Bronze A winner & runner up played at Waitikiri on Monday 7th November. They were placed 6th in the Canterbury region.
Ringers Competition.
Our Ringer representatives Jill Cassidy & Trish Taylor played at Waimakariri Gorge on Wednesday 15th November.
Congratulations to Jill & Trish on winning this competition.
On Monday 13th November our annual dinner & prize giving was held. A discussion was held on holding the Club Championships during March/April to coincide with the Men at this time of the year. At 7-15pm Mike & his staff put out a most delicious meal, and following this the presentation of trophies took place.
The Ladies have again contributed well to our club funds. The Teams Tournament in February raised $474.00 and our Christmas Tournament is expected to raise round $900.00.The weekly Lotto raffle that is sold on Saturdays, has a steady income for the club. Thank you to all who support and help make this a success.
To Neville & Marg in the office who have made my job a lot easier. Marg is so willing to do the computer work (which is a foreign language to me) taking emails & phone calls, many thanks to you.
Thanks to Peter & the boys who keep our course in great condition, as the scores show on some days.
My first year as Ladies Captain, with great support from my committee, whom I thank most sincerely, has run reasonably smooth. The weather has been our biggest problem on several Tuesdays, resulting in postponements. We did get our programmed games played with the exception of our Championship Foursomes, so after three cancellations unfortunately a decision was made to abandon the fixture for 2006.
My thanks must go to Lyn Rainey and helpers for the gardens, Jean Blackwell for all her floral arrangements that adorn our lounge and ladies room, to Jill Cassidy our Saturday Convener, to Margaret Brown & Margaret Gualter who do a wonderful job looking after 9 Hole section and all who have given their time and volunteered in any way to promote our club.
A Merry Christmas to you all and good golfing.
