Ladies Club Captain 12 Monthly Report 2008

I have much pleasure in presenting my report for 2008.

This year posed to be a challenge, being the first time ever that this club has not had a Women’s Captain or Vice Captain but a small committee of five Saturday players with assistance from our handicapper, has kept the wheels turning. Tricia Taylor represented us on the Board of Management and Chris Cole was co-opted as 9 Hole representative
2008 season began with a very successful Open Teams Tournament in early February and will conclude with our very popular Xmas Open Tournament on 25 November. In between, we have witnessed keen competition and camaraderie every Tuesday and Saturday while members play for the many trophies and perhaps an opportunity to represent our club.
The Club Championships were again inconvenienced by appalling weather with the course being closed on Finals day. There was only a small field of qualifiers so there were no plates played for however the finals were all keenly contested with the silver match going to the 36th hole. Perhaps with the championships being programmed back to September and October next year, we return to full fields again. Congratulations to our 2008 winners.

Silver Champion: Amanda Clancy
Bronze A Champion: Lynne Bodger
Bronze B Champion: Diane Roddick

Our three teams were very much to the fore again in the Interclub competitions. The Weekend team went through the season unbeaten, convincingly winning the final for the second year in a row.
The 18 hole team was runners-up in their close final and the 36 Hole Bronze team came 2nd in their zone.

The Weekend Interclub team was one of the three finalists in the Female Team category at the recent North Canterbury Sports Awards.
The annual Plunket Charity Tournament held in May raised $1,000 for this worthy local organisation. Their committee was most thankful for the wonderful effort put in by our ladies and men.
Thank you to the small group of dedicated ladies who brightened up the clubrooms with the beautiful flowers and also tended the gardens. Thank you also to those members who helped out on the four occasions we hosted interclub and three ladies who attended the Canterbury Golf meetings, on behalf the committee.
Finally, a big thank you to our wonderful office staff Nev Lyons and Marg Mundy. You carried out a mountain of tasks additional to the usual day to day running of the club. Your advice and helpfulness during this year was much appreciated.
